Ottawa Senators Foundation inaugural WSP Sens Alumni & NHL Celebrity Cup a Winner for Local Children
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, March 28, 2014 /KidZNewswire/ -- The Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation) is pleased to announce that more than $100,000 was raised by participants during the inaugural WSP Sens Alumni & NHL Celebrity Cup hockey tournament held at earlier today at the Bell Sensplex.
The event featured 14 former NHL players, including hall-of-famer Ray Bourque, Theo Fleury, Denis Savard, Brad Marsh and Ron Duguay. Each player was drafted by a participating team and joined the team in a one-of-a-kind three-game experience. At the end of tournament play, top individual fundraisers formed an All-Star team and competed against the NHL alumni.
"We are very proud to bring this new fundraising event to Ottawa and to have the leadership of our Sens alumni and some of their NHL friends in partnership with WSP and all our sponsors in doing so," said Danielle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation. "Fun and success was had on the ice by all of our teams but off the ice the real champions were our participants who committed to raising more than $100,000 to help make an investment toward changing the statistics for the one in five local kids who don't have access to sports or after-school programs and activities."
"At WSP, we value compassion and caring and are committed to having a positive impact in our communities," said Martin Sing, director sustainable design, WSP Canada Inc. "Partnering with the Ottawa Senators Foundation makes perfect sense for us as we wholeheartedly believethat providing kids and youth with social recreation opportunities and resources to be physically fit and mentally healthy will lead to a better society for all of us".
Funds raised at this inaugural event will support the ongoing work of the Ottawa Senators Foundation of promoting and making accessible child and youth activities that enable both physical and mental wellness through social recreation and education programs. The Foundation's enduring aim is to make a difference in the daily life of all children and youth in the National Capital Region.
