Survey Shows that New Playworks.com Offers Exceptional Education Content
In a survey sent to over 6,000 educators across the U.S., NTC?s newest digital platform ? Playworks.com ? received rave reviews from teachers. Virtually all responding educators, over 98%, felt that the site was fun and creative, and that it was developed with educators and their students in mind.
Minneapolis, MN, March 16, 2014 /KidZNewswire/ -- Teachers are extremely impressed with Playworks.com and its featured educational apps ? digital education games ? that can be played in the classroom or at home on interactive white boards, PCs or tablets. In a nationwide online survey, the featured app was rated an average of 6.06 on a scale of 1 to 7 (with 7 being the best). Said one teacher who reviewed the original education content from NTC, ?The site is great, and looks like it?ll be a great tool for my classroom!?
Playworks.com, developed by NTC?s Digital Learning Lab, offers original educational content to teachers, students and parents as an extension of NTC?s in-school curriculum programs. These new online resources are provided at no charge to schools. As with all of NTC?s programming, the cost of creating the materials is covered by sponsoring organizations that want to be associated with delivering positive educational messages into their communities. In addition to the downloadable education apps, the site includes entertaining videos that stimulate classroom discussion, collateral materials to accompany NTC?s live educational theatre program and digital lesson plans to help teachers integrate the educational content into their classrooms.
?It?s a really exciting extension of our mission,? says Jon Mikkelsen, Creative Director at NTC. ?At our core, we?re story-tellers, and Playworks.com gives us the opportunity to tell exciting and educational stories to young people where they?re already looking for them ? online.? The web platform contains a number of examples of how NTC uses story-telling to deliver an educational message. For instance, NTC?s character Mr. Stixx teaches important financial literacy messages using animation. Sketch comedy webisodes like Villain Mart feature important life lessons like the ?don?t believe everything you hear or see in the media.? Even the original educational apps use characters to tell a compelling story. Independent research studies have consistently shown that this technique of combining story-telling and curriculum engages students emotionally and intellectually ? resulting in an improved retention of the educational message.
Ward Eames, President and Founder of the company, sees an equally important benefit. ?We can now extend the interaction of students, teachers and families with our in-school programs 24/7/365 on behalf of our sponsoring organizations,? he says. ?This makes it even more likely that corporate, non-profit and governmental organizations will want to become sponsors ? enabling us to provide even more educational content to students, teachers and families completely free.?
Teachers are also looking forward to continuing their interaction with the site. Other comments from the survey include:
?Looks great and is easy to use.? ?A very user-friendly site that is educational and fun.? ?It?s awesome, easy and fun ? can?t wait to tell the kids about it.?
